چکیده

[1] Spatial and temporal variability of diurnal wind forcing and the coastal response is characterized for the New York Bight from February through May, 2005. This analysis demonstrates that diurnal wind forced motions are significant in the coastal ocean during the spring and summer months, near shore and as far as 100 km offshore. A doubling of diurnal current amplitudes is common in the spring compared to the winter months, associated with an increase in sea/land breeze days. Diurnal fluid motions due to sea/land breeze events can account for up 50% of the total kinetic energy during the spring. Citation: Hunter, E., R. Chant, L. Bowers, S. Glenn, and J. Spatio-temporal analysis of diurnal air temperature parameterization in Weather Stations over Iran

Diurnal air temperature modeling is a beneficial experimental and mathematical approach which can be used in many fields related to Geosciences. The modeling and spatio-temporal analysis of air Diurnal Temperature Cycle (DTC) was conducted using data obtained from 105 synoptic stations in Iran during the years 2013-2014 for the first time; the key variable for controlling the cosine term i...

NOTES AND CORRESPONDENCE Current Patterns on the West Florida Shelf from Joint Self-Organizing Map Analyses of HF Radar and ADCP Data

To assess the spatial structures and temporal evolutions of distinct physical processes on the West Florida Shelf, patterns of ocean current variability are extracted from a joint HF radar and ADCP dataset acquired from August to September 2003 using Self-Organizing Map (SOM) analyses. Three separate ocean– atmosphere frequency bands are considered: semidiurnal, diurnal, and subtidal. The curre...

Temporal and Spatial Variability of Freshwater Plumes in a Semienclosed Estuarine–Bay System

While the physical forcing mechanisms that govern the outflows of major rivers throughout the world are well documented in the literature, comparably less research has been done to examine the mechanisms that govern the contributions of small rivers and streams to coastal ocean systems. These rivers and streams provide a direct means for the transport of anthropogenic and terrigenous materials ...

An Adjoint Sensitivity Study of Buoyancy- and Wind-Driven Circulation on the New Jersey Inner Shelf

Adjoint sensitivity analysis is used to study the New York Bight circulation for three idealized situations: an unforced buoyant river plume, and upwelling and downwelling wind forcing. A derivation of adjoint sensitivity is presented that clarifies how the method simultaneously addresses initial, boundary, and forcing sensitivities. Considerations of interpretation and appropriate definitions ...
